Matíari means “The First” in the Huichol Indians’ native language, a salute to the fact that the tribe was one of the first peoples to distill agave juice using pot stills. And while our production approach heeds these original processes, the Tateposco factory where Matíari is produced also represents another remarkable “first.”
Tateposco inhabits a locale where vino-mezcal has been planted and produced for more than 500 years—it’s the foundation of the true origin of tequila and the headquarters of Matíari. As this was the original site of mezcal wine production, we were inspired to make tequila using the same techniques employed all those years ago.
Tateposco is owned by Master Distiller David Partida, who ensures that each bottle of tequila stands out for its quality, purity and flavor.
